If you don't know what you're working towards, it's easy to lose desire

Goal setting isn't always necessary, but at least knowing the direction you’re going helps

Who - What - When - Where - Why

If you don’t know who you are, it’s easy to confuse your values.

If you don’t know what you’re working towards, it’s easy to lose desire.

If you don’t know what time of your life you’re in (when), it’s easy to not know what to do.

If you don’t know where you’re going, it’s easy to lose discipline.

If you don’t know why you’re doing it, you’re not going to do it.

Who

Who are you?

Most of us can answer that pretty easily. Some will say I’m a husband or wife, a son or daughter, a father or mother, a christian or buddhist, an employee or a manager, and so on and so on.

But can you answer that on a deeper level?

What else drives you, what lights you up?

What makes you the happiest?

What are your deepest beliefs and values?

What will you NOT stand for?

These are some serious questions you should spend time dwelling on.

You may be thinking what does this have to do with nutrition or weight loss. Stay with me and it will all makes sense at the end.

What

What are you working towards? What life are you building for yourself and for your family?

Knowing what you are doing, day in and day out, is a huge part of having a happy life.

But knowing what to do is secondary to knowing who you are, and why you’re doing it. Sometimes, when you know who you are and your “Why”, the “what” will come naturally.

When

What time period of your life are you living in right now?

Are you a young person just starting on your adult life? Are you just starting in a marriage or just starting a family? Just starting a new career or a new job? Have you been in a solid routine for a couple years and are on cruise control?

Understanding the season you are in is a big part of understanding what goals you could be working on.

It might not be the best time to lose weight if you aren’t sleeping because of a newborn baby being up every 3 hours.

It might not be the best time to start a new weight loss program if your job is staring a new project that demands a lot of you.

Stress management may be the right goal in the above scenarios. Maybe it could be maintaining weight while getting whatever exercise you can.

Learning the basics and building a foundation is an awesome goal for almost any time of life.

What season of life are you in?

Why

The most important question of all.

Why are you doing the things you’re doing?

Why do you want to lose weight?

Why do you want to make your health a priority?

Why are you doing it now?

Why is this one of the most important things to you?

Why?

Why?

One of the most powerful things we can do is learn ourselves. The best way to do that is ask deep questions and be honest about the answers.

Sometimes it takes the perspective of another person for us to realize we need to dig deeper on these types of questions.

That’s one reason coaching can be so powerful, sometimes that coach can see the things you miss.

The most powerful form of motivation is WHY. When you keep that internal motivation forefront in your mind, you reach another level entirely.

Let me share with you my why.

Why do I focus so much on my health?

Because I wan’t to be there for my kids when they get older. I want to be able to keep up with them in sports, I want to be able to coach them, train them and show them the world of fitness and health. I want to live as long as possible and I want to be healthy to do the same with my grandkids and great grandkids. I’m competitive as most of you know, so the thought of playing competitive sports with my kids when they get older drives me.

Why do I want to help others improve their health?

Because I’ve worked in healthcare for over a decade. I’ve seen far too many people with an awful quality of life in their laters years (sometimes fairly young). I’ve seen the habits of some of these people and I truly believe prevention is the best medicine. I want to help as many people as I can realize that in their 20s, 30s, and 40s before it gets to a point that only so much can be reversed.

I want to enjoy life to the fullest, and I want others to do the same. Who wants the highlight of their day to be watching Netflix and scrolling social media???

If I can help you get active enough to enjoy the sports, the outdoors, the hobbies, the games, the nature, the traveling, not to mention fixing that mindset so you can enjoy all the delicious food, then I’ve successfully done what I have set out to do.
