Intermittent Fasting Overview
Intermittent Fasting
Have you ever heard of intermittent fasting? Chances are you probably have. And, you probably know someone who has had success with it. That someone is me!
Recently I’ve lost 12 lbs and counting using intermittent fasting. Last year one of my clients had great success with it and it led me to learn more about it.
So, exactly what is it?
In a way it’s self explanatory. You fast (don’t eat) for so many hours every day. Usually, it’s from one evening until the next day. You eat within a window so that you fast for 14-16 hrs until the next day.
Sounds simple doesn’t? That’s because it is. The idea is pretty simple in itself.
It doesn’t require a complex strategy. It doesn’t require cutting out entire food groups or watching your macros to an exact number.
For it to be effective it does require you to watch what you eat, manage hunger, and eat appropriate portion sizes.
Maybe you know someone who’s had success with this method maybe you’ve seen a coach or trainer promote it. Similar to some of the other weight loss methods, it isn’t a magic pill. Some people will claim it causes your cells or organs to do crazy things to burn fat. While that is not true, it does help your body burn fat by burning through the food you have eaten and then start using fat for energy in the fasting period.
You’re probably thinking, can I eat whatever I want in my eating window?
Yes and no. Yes you can still eat the foods you love in appropriate portion sizes, but no you cannot eat as much as you want and still expect to burn fat.
Who is intermittent fasting for?
It’s especially effective for people who aren’t very hungry first thing in the morning, or in the evening. Or people who already like to eat fewer, larger meals.
It is not particularly effective for people who eat smaller meals more often, or people who have issues with binge eating.
