Macros, Motivation and Mindset - What Are Habits?
The ATPeebles Nutrition Friday Letter Feb 7th 2025
What are Habits?
This series of emails over the next couple months are all about changing habits.

There's a lot of conflicting diet advice out there on social media right now. Despite which side of certain arguments you're on, there is one thing that doesn't change. Your success is tied to your habits.
This is one reason why many people who win the lottery go broke within a couple years. They already had poor money habits, so when they get this huge sum of money nothing changes.
Your habits aren't usually something that change overnight. It takes work to change them. Changing them isn't easy, but if you do you can see huge benefits.
What exactly are habits?
Habits are automatic behaviors, behaviors we do sometime without even thinking. These behaviors shape our life.
Habits go right along with mindset.
Your mindset is a result of your past, and your habits are the result of your past. The result of your different life situations that led you to where you are now.
Small decisions repeated consistently
Basically, your habits are a serious of small decisions made over and over. After making them over and over so many times they become automatic. This is one of the ways you can change your habits. Make decisions consistently over and over and it will become more automatic.
Everything we do can technically be broken down into a habit. What are some healthy or not so healthy habits you can think of?
I am currently in the habit of snacking at night, and although it isn't wrecking my progress, it certainly isn't helping it. I am usually in the habit of lifting weights, but sometimes it gets easier to fall out of that habit.
Habits are often changing, but it's usually subtle.
This is why it's so hard for someone who doesn't work out at all to start doing it 5 days a week. On the flip side, someone who consistently works out 5 days a week usually has no trouble coming back to it if they miss a few days or a week.
Habits shape who you are, that’s why it’s so important to understand them. That's exactly what I will cover next Friday, "Why Habits Matter."
