Why it never works when someone says "just tell me what to do"
“Just Tell Me What To Do”
Several times in the past I have tried to help people with their nutrition for free. One common theme with those people was the above phrase. They just wanted a meal plan, “tell me exactly what to eat”, or “tell me what to do.” It didn’t work for them.
And there’s a reason why. The fact is, they already knew what to do. Most of us do. You already know you should be eating more fruits and vegetables, more protein, less fast food, less sugary drinks etc etc etc.
I’m not saying it’s easy to do those things. I’m just stating the fact that most of you already know how important those things are. But yet, it’s almost like we are looking for the thing we haven’t heard yet.
In fitness, that translates to us looking for the next best diet, or some secret strategy for optimal health. We want to try every new idea that pops up.
If you are constantly looking for the thing you haven’t heard yet, it’s because without realizing it you are avoiding the fact that there is something you already you know you should be doing.
I’ve done the same thing. For years I wanted to know the “best workouts” and I was always asking for advice. I would switch things up with every new fact I learned. Until here recently I realized that I knew all along what exercises I should be doing, and how I should be progressing. My results took off once I just started consistently doing what I already knew.
And in my business, I’ve continued to search for the “secret formula” to get new clients. I’ve read book after book, podcast after podcast, course after course. Until I realized I just need to implement what I already know.
In order to get to that next level, you have to become that next version of you.
In order to get to that next version, you have to take action.
Losing weight or improving your diet is also about personal growth. There may be areas of life you can’t grow in until you grow in certain things.
That’s why a growth mindset is so important. You absolutely can grow and improve any skill you want, and improve any aspect of your life that you want. As long as you take action and stop putting off the things you already know that work.
